![]() Fit and finish are also taken from The Top Shelf. Images found online may lead one to believe that the Parat is nothing more than flashy cosmetics but in the hand, one immediately feels its surprising density. But make no mistake, this is a fun, very high quality, very shootable, point and shoot, camera that is worth giving a chance. It’s the kind of camera that you’ll tend to see on eBay for anywhere from $50 to $150 or even $200 with no bids probably because people don’t generally know much about them. I paid $70 for it as a tested, working copy and today, in 2015, it still works 100% without having had any service. I bought mine in 2008 from Tina Waters, the curator of Gallery 61 in New York. The Agfa Optima Parat is a beautifully quirky compact, fixed lens, scale focus, 35mm half-frame camera, made in Germany in 1963.
